Candidate:
David Hanna

Who are you?
My background is in architecture, urban historical geography and fine
art history. I have also taken workshops in Green Roof Design and Solar
Energy Applications. I'm a past member of the Toronto Preservation Board,
past President of the Etobicoke Historical Society and a past member
of the Gardiner East Dismantling Design Liason Committee. Presently
I'm a Board member on a local residents association (RMRA), Chair of
the Museum Committee of the Mimico Station Community Organization, vollunteer
at the Tollkeeper's Cottage restoration and a member of the Portlands
Liason Advisory Committee. I have been a Participant in several OMB
Hearings on various local issues and have been involved in several architectural
design charrettes.
Why are you running?
I'm running because the contest serves as a brilliant new attempt to
further democracy and provides new venue to the average
citizen while broadening public debate. Hopefully this
contest will allow many new insights into City Building and
serve to inspire both the community and each other. City Council needs
new ideas, new blood and reform - particularly considering the upcoming
changes proposed in the New City of Toronto Act.
What should a City Councillor be?
A City Councillor has to be open, accessible, a good listener, consensus
builder and have courage and backbone when needed. A Councillor should
be knowledgeble on City issues and processes and know when and
how to seek advice from others. By definition, a Councillor represents
others and must encourage and facillitate broad citizen involvement.
A Councillor must govern collegially and both determine and confirm
direction from the community. Ecological and ethical standards are the
essential philosophical and practical keystones necessary for the job.
Good luck to all!

We need new leaders.
