Candidate: Keegan Henry-Mathieu

My name is Keegan Henry-Mathieu. I am York University student studying Economics and Political Science

My community involvement stems back to the days when I used to volunteer for organizations like the Heart and Stroke foundation, Out of the Cold, and the Salvation Army. I‚ve also been involved with the Toronto Youth Cabinet (TYC) As an executive on the TYC I successfully created strong links with community organizations and young people from different parts of the city with the help of the TYC's 11 other executives and many members. My priorities in working with communities have been consistent throughout the time that I have spent with this organization:

1. Getting more young people involved in civic affairs
2. Ensuring that the youth voice is a credible source in politics when dealing with issues that concern young people.
3. Ensuring that ALL young people in marginalized communities receive the same opportunities as anyone else living in Toronto by breaking down any systematic barriers that may impede their ability to excel.

I live in an area in the city where I have many essential resources at arm‚s length but I‚m not blind to the fact that many other young people in the city have had live with out those same services. But I‚m running because I‚m very passionate about ensuring that the marginalized communities are able to get the same services that I have been able to get. I think that an ideal city councilor would not only represent the needs and wants for the community, but also contribute new ideas and create new opportunities for everyone in Toronto. As a young black male, I can relate to many of the issues that arise in the city and hopefully this would help me to better represent young people from across this city.

We need new leaders.
