Candidate: Rebecca Finch

Who are you?

I am a professional designer who moonlights as Editor (in chief) of an online magazine called The MetaBall. I have written a novel and a mountain of short stories and poetry. I am passionate about justice and organization, and how it applies to this city, this country, and this planet.

Why are you running?

I don’t believe in labels. I believe in diplomacy and equality, steadfast loyalty and kind determination. I believe in human potential and responsibility, of them both being realized to their full extent, yet I understand the complicated trivialities of bureaucracy, its benefits and downfalls. I believe in the validity of every individual’s opinion, every individual’s rights, all of which need to be held in precarious balance when dealing with the myriad of issues making up the mosaic of municipal government.

What should a City Councillor be?

A city councilor must be a fearlessly diligent leader, willing to stand up for not only the interests of their current constituents, but able to see clearly the interests of future ones. He or she must be able to take an innovative approach to finding solutions which successfully marry capitalism and environmentalism, multiculturalism and individualism, freedom and justice, security and privacy, image and infrastructure. He or she must have a compassionate understanding of human nature, realizing that while not everyone can be happy all the time, the health and safety of the people of their city will be upheld above all else. A city councilor must be honest and trustworthy, communicable and approachable, hard-working and productive.

We need new leaders.
